From Fat To Fit

BeFunky Collage.jpgMy journey revolving around my obesity has always been crucial. While I was growing up, I was extremely fit and I was very much in sports. However, with academic pressure and travelling to and fro from Pune to Talegaon, curtailed a lot of my activities. Alas! one fine day I was diagnosed with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS). PCOS came as a big blow because it resulted in pigmentation, hairfall and most importantly WEIGHT GAIN!

As a kid, people teased me calling WALKING STICK (I was that thin) and when I hit puberty I already started looking like a mature woman in her 30s, thanks to the weight gain! Somehow I had my ups and downs while maintaining weight before marriage, however on the wedding day I was nowhere to be called – thin. My PCOS had worsened with time and hit me hard after marriage. Being in my 30s, I looked as if I was in my 40s. I was detected with gall stones and that’s the only time I could shed my kilos. That too comes with a disclaimer –  I couldn’t swallow morsel and hence had to make a fine paste in the mixie and eat.

My gall stone operation was a critical one but it was a success. I started planning for a baby but it was next to impossible – thanks to PCOS again! I’ve had 2 miscarriages (blighted ovum and ectopic) and it changed my life for worse. I was bloated like hell and crossed all boundaries of weight gain. Weight overpowered by health and there were no signs of pregnancy! Then came my angel Dr Varada Sugwekar-Sule who runs a clinic at Aundh, Pune. She insisted me to go for obesity management at her clinic because she had some astounding results with PCOS patients.

Initially skeptical, but her words hit me hard and I started the diet. First 6 days kick started and I would consume Ayurvedic oil in the morning and daal-roti at night. Then I got a shock of my life – I had lost almost 5 kgs in those 6 days! I was dancing and feeling so motivated with this regime. I sincerely coped up with every instruction that Dr Varada gave! Gradually, unnecessary hunger prangs started waiving off! I started getting motivated more and more to get fitter and better. Then the actual journey of WEIGHT LOSS kick started. I started going for brisk walking/jog which I started from 30 minutes. As days passed by, Dr Varada changed my diet. She introduced vegetables in my diet which I followed religiously. I banned junk food, rice, desserts completely! On the other hand, I increased my workout too!

Today, I walk for almost 1-1.15 hours with no signs of lethargy or tiredness. I also do some weight training, occasional cycling and swimming. I still survive on daal sometimes! This journey has been a roller-coaster ride for me! I started my diet on 75 kgs and today I am 60 kgs, although I want to lose 5 kgs more. Control on your eating habits, regular exercises, opting for a healthy lifestyle is the essence of a healthy life! And off course listening to your dietitian is immensely important. He/She is not a evil but your angel! So, make up your mind today and shape a healthy life! If I can do it, then you can too!

I was wondering if you ever considered changing the structure of your blog? Its very well written; I love what youve got to say. But maybe you could a little more in the way of content so people could connect with it better. Youve got an awful lot of text for only having 1 or 2 pictures. Maybe you could space it out better?
