World Health Day - Ways to Maintain Healthy Lifestyle & Save The Planet

Did you know that April 7 is marked as WORLD HEALTH DAY that aims to draw attention to important health ailments? Moreover, given the current circumstances of COVID-19, this day has gained more prominence.

With the pandemic, people across the globe have become more alert about their health.

Everyone is on a spree to boost their immunity, and I am no different in this! Yes, even I have become attentive to my healthy regime in the last two years. Lately, we also started treks and hikes to break the monotony of the gym.

And all for the sake of a healthy lifestyle. So, I decided why not list some healthy tips for all my readers that we can implement in our daily routine.

TIP: Please consult your doctor before deciding on any healthy regime.

But before moving ahead, let’s delve deeper into World Health Day!

What is World Health Day?

Under the sponsorship of the World Health Organization (WHO) and other associated organizations, it was decided to celebrate World Health Day on April 7 as a global health awareness day.

According to Wikipedia, this day also marks the foundation of WHO. Interestingly, the organization comes with a unique theme and conducts various regional, international, and local events every year.

The theme for this year is “Our planet, our health,” which draws attention to the noxious aftermath of the climate crisis. It also emphasizes the actions to be taken to safeguard the well-being of humans and the planet.

Indeed, this theme is the need of the hour because, from 2000 to 2019, extreme weather resulted in 9.4% of all deaths globally.

So, here is a little brief about World Health Day. For more information, you can check out all about it here.

Without any further ado, now let’s get to the gist of the article.

Healthy tips to commemorate World Health Day

1. Don’t forget to walk

One of the best health tips for a healthy lifestyle is to keep moving. Some do not like running, and some avoid gymming, but I would insist on not avoiding walking. If you didn’t know, walking comes with a list of benefits, and some are.

  • It helps in weight loss
  • Reduces body fat
  • Curtails heart diseases
  • Boosts the management of high blood pressure

These are few, but walking is truly a healthy package. Walking for 30 minutes can also do wonders and if you are brisk walking, then icing on the cake. Put on your headphone and walk while you listen to your favorite playlist.

How it helps the environment: If you wish to cover a short distance to run errands or buy light groceries, walk instead of using the vehicle. It will help you stay healthy and save the environment from poisonous fuel combustion.

2. Stay hydrated

Staying hydrated has its own set of benefits for a healthy lifestyle. Many doctors recommend drinking eight glasses of water, but some doctors may have a different opinion! It is also advisable to consult your doctor before taking up any step.

But be it 8 or 9 glasses, water is beneficial for the body. It has an array of benefits:

  • Regulates body temperature
  • Lubricates the joints
  • Curtails infections
  • Maintains healthy functioning of the organs
  • All this with the perks of sound sleep and mood.

How it helps the environment: Wondering how your hydration can help the environment? Well, the answer is simple. Instead of plastic bottles, choose glass, copper, steel, or terracotta bottles. We all know the drawbacks of using plastic, so isn’t it best to opt for possibilities for a healthier life.

3. Have a healthy diet plan

Over time, I realized that you must not starve to stay healthy. Eat healthy but at regular intervals and in limited portions.

Please do not overdo it at any cost! Besides, avoid processed foods and choose natural sources of nutrition like vegetables, fruits, nuts, whole grains, low-fat dairy, seafood, etc.

How it helps the environment: When you eat food in limited portions, it avoids food wastage. With this, it helps lower the burden of landfills, which are already overflowing.

In addition, choose veggies and fruits that are organically grown. They are free from pesticides – a boon for your body and the environment!

4. Endorse green space

Thanks to the concrete jungle, we have cut down many trees and forests. Due to this, it has disturbed the equilibrium of the environment. However, for a healthy body, you need oxygen, and for that, you need trees.

To achieve this, try and plant as many trees as possible. I personally love plants as they help me stay calm. So, I have maintained a terrace garden and a few indoor plants.

How it helps the environment: Plants help maintain the equilibrium of the environment and humans. The natural supplier of oxygen helps maintain a cool setting, especially when pollution engulfs us. Besides, they are a great way to gift your loved ones.

5. Get ample sleep

Sleep plays a pivotal role in maintaining a healthy body and mind. When sleep deprivation peeps in, health ailments like diabetes, high blood pressure, heart attack, or stroke sweeps the body.

Other than this, a person may also suffer from depression, obesity, or low sex drive. All in all, sleep can affect immensely, and I have experienced it.

With a lack of sleep, I cannot concentrate on my work, nor can I indulge in physical activity. I feel so lethargic the whole time. So, whatever happens, I make it a point to grab sound sleep!

How it helps the environment: You might wonder how sleep helps the environment? Well, when you sleep adequately, it helps preserve various resources like electricity, fuel, and food. You turn the lights off, don’t drive when asleep, and do not eat when asleep, eventually saving these resources.

6. Switch to sustainable living

I mentioned above how you can throw those plastic bottles and use terracotta or glass bottles. In addition to this, switch to a completely organic lifestyle when choosing utensils or daily necessities.

For example, instead of carrying a plastic bag for vegetables, choose a cotton bag. Stop using aluminum vessels because studies have highlighted its adverse effects.

Instead, replace them with iron, copper, and terracotta utensils. Also, turn to recycling and choose the mantra – “best out of waste.”

How it helps the environment: With the plastic reduction, the environment will be healthy because plastic spreads toxins and is life-threatening to wildlife. Thus, adding to global warming.

Besides, you can easily convert your waste into something more productive with recycling. For example, a chandelier made of plastic bottles, vehicle tires converted into chairs, etc. All these will help in the reduction of carbon footprint too!

On a parting note

I know some of these tips may sound cliché and some impossible to implement. But we can always TRY, and that’s our power.

Giving up without even trying an ounce is unacceptable. So, let’s pledge together and try our best to keep our bodies healthy and our environment healthy. Who are all with me? Do comment below with a ❤️
